The Kansas City Chiefs ruled out All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney and wide receiver Skyy Moore for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens. Coach Andy Reid confirmed Friday that Thuney (pectoral), Moore (knee), nose tackle Derrick Nnadi (triceps) and reserve offensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho (quad) will not play. Running back Isiah Pacheco (toe, ankle), safety Mike Edwards (concussion), linebacker Willie Gay (neck) and wide receiver Kadarius Toney (hip) are questionable for the game in Baltimore. Pacheco practiced Friday for the first time this week. Gay missed Friday's practice due to a neck spasm. Thuney, 31, was injured during last Sunday's 27-24 divisional playoff win at Buffalo. Moore, 23, has not played since Dec. 17. He was designated to r…
Regardless of whether the NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) is actually better than the RPI (Rating Percentage Index), its intention is clear: to create a bracket with fewer surprises. “This will prevent the outliers,” said Gonzaga coach Mark Few, who served as a consultant during NET’s development, “There were teams and leagues that were able to trick the RPI, either intentionally or unintentionally. We have all the technology and analytics, and it was silly not to use it.” What does this have to do with names? While that other bracket tries to use data to mitigate its trademark Madness, we at the Name of the Year pledge to continue to do the opposite. We will seed the NOTY Tournament field based on impulse and gut feeling. We will not develop a NOTY Evaluation Tool. Will our bias s…
Some people are fans of the Minnesota Vikings. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Minnesota Vikings. This 2016 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the previews so far here. And buy Drew’s new book here. Your team: Blair missed the kick. Your 2015 record: I don’t even remember because Blair missed the kick. Here… I don’t… Ugh, just… Look man, shit like this only happens when God wants to fuck you. This is the part where I disclose to you that I am a Vikings fan. That means no matter what I say on this website about any other team, or any other fans, or any other city, you can go right ahead and throw this goddamn kick right back in my face and I will be unable to respond. I am a deer in headlights when confronted with the absol…
Some people are fans of the San Diego Chargers. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the San Diego Chargers. This 2013 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the 2013 NFL previews so far right here. Your team: San Diego Chargers Your 2012 record: 7-9, which is actually kind of better than I remember them being. I totally thought they had gone 4-12. Either way, if you have to go 0-16 in order to purge your franchise of AJ Smith and Norv Turner for good, you do what you have to do. AJ Smith was the absolute worst. Your coach: Mike McCoy, who could go 2-14 and blow up a church this season and still be liked by Chargers fans simply for not being Norv Turner. It's like the grace period after winning a Super Bowl. No team that fires Norv Turner …
What with the price of gas and all, there apparently isn't a lot to do over at the Basney Honda in South Bend, Ind. So co-workers told Jason Gordon that they would chip in and get him two tickets to the Notre Dame-Michigan game, and all Gordon had to do to earn them was get a full body wax. Irish fans being Irish fans, Gordon of course agreed to do it. We go now to WNDU-TV for the full report — including video — which we found via Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer. "I was crying and breathing in my happy place," said Jason during and after the wax. "I'm going to feel a lot better than I did today." You know, we appreciate Gordon's devotion to his team … but all told, we think his friends are kind of dicks for making him go through with it. It's…
data-mm-id=”_08xck7hri”>The Houston Astros' cheating scandal may be hard to follow for those that have never spent a minute thinking about America's former pastime in January. Subsequently, if you fall into that category, you likely don't want to take the time to read a synopsis on it. But that doesn't mean you can't learn, understand, get outraged, and develop an opinion on it in two minutes thanks to this peak 2020 video. Here is the story of Astros' ongoing disaster told by the 2004 life-changer, Mean Girls.Everything You Need To Know About The Current State Of Major League Baseball As Told By Mean Girls pic.twitter.com/2HrKoY0yJc— Julia (@jquadddddd) January 17, 2020The Lindsay Lohan-led, decently-rated comedy helped many survive the daunting days o…
data-mm-id=”_f0s0e3b3a”>We all know Spencer Dinwiddie is an enterprising basketball player. Just this year he negotiated with the NBAPA to allow for parts of his contract to be paid out in Bitcoin. But his newest endeavor may be his most ambitious yet. Dinwiddie, bored at home with access to Twitter like everyone else, saw all the news circulating today about the Bulls looking for a new personnel man to run their front office. He decided to toss his hat in the ring, because why not? It’s come to my attention the @chicagobulls need a GM. If you say pretty please I just might come back as first ever player/GM ??— Spencer Dinwiddie (@SDinwiddie_25) April 8, 2020But, as to be expected of someone like Dinwiddie, he didn't stop there. An hour later he tweeted out his course of acti…
data-mm-id=”_250xmomm7″>Tom Pelphrey deserved better. On Tuesday, when the Emmy nominations were announced, we learned he had been snubbed after turning in the performance of the year during the third season of Ozark. The 38-year-old actor played Ben Davis, the brother of Laura Linney's Wendy Byrde. He gave a haunting, heartbreaking performance as a man struggling in the throes of mental illness. He stole scenes left and right and, despite playing a supporting role, the season truly belonged to him. That's saying something when an actor is sharing the screen with the likes of Jason Bateman, Julia Garner and Linney. Pelphrey was tasked with playing a man suffering with bipolar disorder. When Ben is on his medication he's goofy, kind and loving with a big personality. He c…
data-mm-id=”_kdmfxkmp7″>Matt Stafford's career is winding down. He's suffered enough abuse in Detroit over the last 11 years to last 10 lifetimes. Now is the moment for him to stop being a team player and think about numero uno. If he comes to the same conclusion I have, it's clear numero uno needs to be somewhere other than Mo Town. It's weird saying that because Stafford's played his entire career with the Lions, experiencing the same personal highs and lows as some of the other greats to play for Detroit (Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson), but likewise suffering the same losing culture that permeates throughout the franchise. Now 32-years-old, it's time he focuses on trying to win with a new team. Stafford has two years left on his contract (unless the Lio…
