He decides the biggest moments – Wijnaldum hails Salah

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah always delivers in the biggest moments, according to team-mate Georginio Wijnaldum.

Salah led his side to a 5-2 win over Roma in the Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield on Tuesday, scoring a brace and providing two assists.

The Egypt international has scored 43 goals this season in what has been an incredible campaign.

Wijnaldum was full of praise for Salah, saying the forward continued to deliver when needed.

It s great to have him in our team, especially in the form that he is in right now, he decides the biggest moments, he said.

He s always there with his goals and assists, but the way he plays, he s always a threat for the opponents, so that helps the other players to perform better.

Atalanta 5-0 Milan: Ilicic at the double as Rossoneri suffer Bergamo woe

Josip Ilicic scored twice as Atalanta outclassed a sorry Milan with a 5-0 rout in Bergamo on Sunday.

The hosts were rewarded for a dominant opening with a wonderful solo goal from Alejandro Gomez and ex-Rossoneri midfielder Mario Pasalic doubled the lead shortly after the hour.

Ilicic drilled home in the 63rd minute and soon had a second with an exquisite effort as Atalanta who completed the thrashing through substitute Luis Muriel were rewarded for a display full of enterprise and invention with a result that sees them head into Serie A s mid-season break in fifth.

Milan, who were unbeaten in four prior to the game, and coach Stefano Pioli will need to do some soul searching over the next fortnight, though, after a woeful away performance.

Emery leaving PSG with a smile on his face

Unai Emery said he has enjoyed his time at Paris Saint-Germain as the outgoing head coach prepares to leave the French champions with a smile on his face.

Saturday s Ligue 1 clash at home to Rennes will be Emery s final match in charge of the domestic treble winners.

Emery arrived in 2016, guiding PSG to Ligue 1 glory and back-to-back trophies in the Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophee des Champions.

PSG failed to make an impact in the Champions League, though, suffering consecutive last-16 exits under the Spaniard.

However, former Sevilla boss Emery insisted he will be all smiles as he reflected on his PSG tenure.

Griezmann delivers his best amid Payet´s tears on mixed night for Deschamps

The images of Antoine Griezmann and Dimitri Payet shining each other s boots were some of the abiding ones of France s brilliant but ultimately unsuccessful run to the final of Euro 2016.

But their experiences of Wednesday s Europa League final at a cacophonous Groupama Stadium could hardly have been more contrasting.

Marseille and Payet had started brightly, with the captain and Florian Thauvin to the fore as they pressured Atletico in the early going.

But pressure is something Diego Simeone s Atletico relish. They soak it up and wait for you to make a mistake, and when you do, it is usually Griezmann who is there to pounce.

Chievo sack Corini

Eugenio Corini is the first managerial casualty of the 2014-15 Serie A season after he was sacked as Chievo head coach on Sunday.

The 44-year-old was initially in charge of the club between October 2012 and May 2013 before leaving at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

However, Corini returned in November last year and guided the team to 16th as they narrowly avoided relegation to Serie B.

Chievo have failed to build on that escape this season, losing five of their opening seven league matches, including a 3-0 reverse at Roma on Saturday.

The Serie A club confirmed the news of Corini s departure in a brief statement on Sunday.

AC Chievo Verona announces that it has relieved as coach of the first team Eugenio Corini, it read.

No advice from Mourinho for Karanka and Boro

Aitor Karanka is expecting no favours from his friend, Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho, upon Middlesbrough s return to the Premier League.

Karanka was Mourinho s assistant during his time at Real Madrid, and regularly sought advice during a difficult opening period at the Riverside Stadium.

However, the Spaniard accepts that will change, now that they are competitors.

We are friends and that is the most important thing, Karanka said.

When you are friends, you are always trying to help each other out but now we are playing in the league. So, advice from Jose? No.

I learnt a lot with him and I wish him all the best this season – except when Manchester United play against Middlesbrough of course.

Kane agrees new six-year Tottenham contract

Tottenham have tied star striker Harry Kane down until 2024 after announcing he has signed a new contract.

Kane has established himself as one of the Premier League s elite players in recent seasons after coming through the ranks at Spurs and he has been rewarded for his fine form.

The England striker scored 30 goals in 37 league appearances in the season just finished, making it his best individual campaign in the division after surpassing his haul of 29 from 2016-17.

Kane has regularly been linked with a move away from Spurs, predominantly to Manchester United and Real Madrid, but supporters can breathe a sigh of relief as he looks set to be sticking around for a while yet.

Pobega baffled by Milan struggles as Serie A dip continues

Milan midfielder Tomasso Pobega bemoaned a missed opportunity in Serie A against Bologna.

Stefano Pioli s side fell behind with just 33 seconds played, with Pobega equalising five minutes before the break with a thunderous strike.

Despite dominating proceedings, Milan were unable to find a winner in the game and dropping points opens the door to rivals Inter and Atalanta in the hunt for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.

Having been held to a draw, Milan could end the weekend outside of the top four and have testing fixtures to finish the season – including a trip to face Juventus on the final day.

While there has been plenty of attention on the two recent victories over Napoli, domestic form is a huge concern with Milan having just a…

Pardew confident of success despite transfer failings

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew feels they can be optimistic of a strong season, despite their lack of activity in the transfer window.

Club owner Mike Ashley recruited Joe Kinnear as director of football in a controversial move back in June, with the former manager adamant he would improve the squad following their 16th-place finish in 2012-13.

However, striker Loic Remy has been Newcastle s only senior recruit, the France international striker joining on a season long loan from Championship side QPR in August.

Newcastle s sole permanent transfer saw them bring in 17-year-old midfielder Olivier Kemen from Metz, while prospective deals for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis and England international Darren Bent who joined Fulham on loan in August failed to materialise.
